What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that exists naturally in our bodies and, among its many functions, promotes tissue regeneration, which is reflected in the quality and health of our skin.
When we are young, due to the presence of larger amounts of Hyaluronic Acid, our skin is characteristically smooth, elastic and with well-defined facial contours. As we get older, the natural levels of Hyaluronic Acid in our bodies decrease, giving rise to some complaints:
- Sagging
- Expression wrinkles
- Loss of volume
- Poorly defined facial contours, especially in the malar region (cheekbones) and mandible
- Dry and dull skin
How does hyaluronic acid work?
When Hyaluronic Acid is injected into the skin, the body’s ability to fix water molecules to the treated area increases and, as a result, the volume of the area where it was injected also increases. Hyaluronic Acid is therefore used to promote skin rejuvenation, as it restores lost volume, improves elasticity, reduces sagging, smoothes and prevents the appearance of expression wrinkles.
What kind of wrinkles does Hyaluronic Acid treat?
- Nasolabial folds ("Chinese moustache")
- Perioral wrinkles ("barcode")
- Labiomental grooves ("marionette lines")
- Lip commissures (drooping lip corners)
Hyaluronic Acid for a more harmonious face
In addition to treating wrinkles, Hyaluronic Acid is used to improve facial contour:
- Lips (increase volume and define contour)
- Cheekbones (to increase volume and define the contour)
- Filling in dark circles (improving deep dark circles)
- Nose (disguise the hump, raise or lower the tip)
- Jawline (define and project)
- Chin (increase volume and project)
- Hand, neck and décolleté rejuvenation
Botox® or Hyaluronic Acid?
Which is best for me?
Hyaluronic Acid and Botulinum Toxin are different substances that act in different ways and for different purposes.
While Hyaluronic Acid fills in and improves facial contours, Botox® reduces the force of muscle contraction and acts on dynamic wrinkles (forehead, between the eyebrows and crow’s feet).
The most suitable treatment depends on your initial characteristics and what you want to treat. During your consultation, you will be given a plan designed entirely to suit you.
Procedure
How long does Hyaluronic Acid last?
The effect of Hyaluronic Acid lasts between 9 and 12 months, depending on the area of the face where it is applied. However, as new applications are made, the duration of the effect tends to increase due to the improvement in the levels of Hyaluronic Acid present in the skin.
A tailor-made treatment and prevention plan
The first step to fillings with Hyaluronic Acid is a consultation with one of our aesthetic medicine specialists.
In this first assessment, a personal and individualized plan will be designed to treat and prevent skin ageing and improve the balance and harmony of the face.
Care after treatment
Filling wrinkles with Hyaluronic Acid does not require any recovery time, but it is important to take certain precautions into account:
- Avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours
- No exercise or other exertion for 24 hours
- Carefully massage the area where the Hyaluronic Acid has been applied
- Apply ice or cold compresses to the treated area to reduce swelling
