What is Morpheus 8?

Morpheus 8 is a cutting-edge aesthetic treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) to reshape and rejuvenate the skin. It works on the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in firmer, more toned and youthful skin.

How does it work?

Microneedling: The device uses small needles that pierce the skin at different depths. These “microlesions” trigger the skin’s natural healing process, promoting cell regeneration.

Radiofrequency: At the same time, the Morpheus 8 emits radiofrequency energy waves that heat up the underlying layers of the skin. This heat helps to contract the tissues and stimulates collagen production.

Combined results: The combined action of micro-needling and radiofrequency improves skin texture, reduces wrinkles, sagging and other imperfections.

What can it treat?

The treatment is versatile and can be used on various areas of the body, such as the face, neck, abdomen, arms and thighs. Some of the main indications include:

Number of sessions required

The results of Morpheus 8 begin to appear gradually over a few weeks, as collagen forms. For many, a single session already brings visible improvements, but 3 to 4 sessions are generally recommended for best results.

Procedure

How long does treatment with Morpheus 8 last?

Initial results: Some improvements may be visible within a week of treatment, but the results continue to improve over 3 months due to the gradual production of collagen.

Duration of results: Results can last 1 to 3 years, depending on lifestyle, age and skin care. For maintenance, many clinics recommend an annual session.

Care after treatment

The recovery time is short, and most people can resume their normal activities the same day or the next day. There may be a slight peeling of the skin after 2-3 days, as the damaged cells renew themselves.

  • Avoid wearing make-up for 48 hours after treatment
  • Use SPF50+ sun protection
  • Use moisturizing creams
  • Avoid abrasive cosmetics
  • Avoid intense physical exercise for 48 hours after treatment

Contraindications

Although it is safe for most people, some conditions may contraindicate the use of Morpheus 8, such as:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active infections in the treated area
  • Autoimmune diseases that affect skin healing
  • Recent use of isotretinoin (in treatments for severe acne)

He obtained his Master’s degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine in Lisbon and then specialized in Otorhinolaryngology at the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, where he joined the teaching staff as a free assistant. His training in Otorhinolaryngology had a strong component in head and neck surgery, but also in Rhinology, Otology and Pediatric Laryngology.

At the end of his internship, he dedicated himself to further training in functional and aesthetic surgery of the nose (Rhinoplasty and Rhino-septoplasty). During this time, he did an internship in head and neck oncology at the Otorhinolaryngology department of the IPO in Lisbon and an internship in otology and skull base at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. He subsequently undertook several fellowships with world-renowned surgeons in the field of Rhinoplasty / facial plastic surgery, namely:

Between 2010-2013 he worked at the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) in Texas, the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and the National Cancer Institute (INCA) in Rio de Janeiro. In 2014 she was a Hospital Assistant at the IPO and since 2015 she has been a Hospital Assistant at the Centro Hospitalar Universitário de Lisboa Central (CHULC). In 2020 she graduated in Aesthetic Medicine from the Portuguese Society of Aesthetic and Cosmetic Medicine (SPMEc).

Although his passion for Aesthetic Medicine first arose from strengthening the self-esteem of cancer patients – oncoaesthetics – he now has a huge passion for the skin, our largest organ, and for looking at it as a whole, especially preventatively.
