Wrinkles

What are wrinkles?

Wrinkles are creases that form in the skin and become deeper over time due to the loss of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and other substances that promote skin support and firmness.

On the other hand, the repetition of certain facial expressions over the years, such as laughing, frowning and making an “angry face”, causes the face to become progressively marked in certain areas of the face – the forehead, between the eyebrows and “crow’s feet”.

In addition to intrinsic factors (ageing), there are extrinsic factors that accelerate the development of wrinkles:

Types of wrinkles

Dynamic Wrinkles

They are the first to appear and are formed by the contraction of muscles. Dynamic wrinkles are only visible when we make facial movements such as smiling, frowning or frowning. As a result of these muscle contractions, wrinkles appear in areas such as the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabella) and “crow’s feet” (around the eyes). If left untreated, they can become deeper over the years, becoming visible even when the face is not moving.

Static Wrinkles

Static wrinkles appear due to a decrease in the thickness of the layers of the skin’s elastic structure and are associated with sagging and loss of volume in the face. Unlike dynamic wrinkles, static wrinkles are visible even when the face is at rest, without any movement. Examples of static wrinkles are nasolabial folds, “bar codes”, “marionette lines”, among others.
