What is the menopause?

The menopause is a natural and inevitable phase in a woman’s life, marking the transition from the fertile period to a phase of physical and psychological change, which each woman experiences differently.

The menopause usually occurs between the ages of 40 and 55 and is diagnosed after symptoms and suggestive signs have been presented and confirmed by laboratory tests.

This phase is often preceded by a period known as peri menopause, which can begin several years before the last menstrual cycle. During the peri menopause, hormone levels, especially of estrogen and progesterone, begin to fluctuate, leading to changes in the menstrual cycle and manifesting themselves through a variety of symptoms.

Above all, it is important to understand that the menopause is not a disease, but a phase in a woman’s life with hormonal and metabolic changes.

PERSONALIZED TREATMENT

The diversity of experiences makes it imperative to approach the menopause in a personalized way, recognizing and responding to the specific needs of each woman.

After a medical assessment, women are given a complete evaluation, with medical examinations, analyses and imaging tests (bone densitometry, ultrasound, mammography or breast MRI, gynaecological ultrasound) so that an individualized treatment plan can be defined, not forgetting family and personal history of oncological diseases, hormone dependence, thrombophilia, liver disease or migraines.

The personalized approach includes adapted hormone replacement therapies, as well as strategies for lifestyle changes and addressing the psychological changes associated with the menopause, promoting a new balance and healthy aging.

Benefits of treatment

The menopause should therefore be an opportunity for women to redefine their identity and embrace the physical and emotional changes with wisdom and confidence.

At Skin Boutique, we understand the complexity of this phase and we are here to offer support, information and personalized treatments that will allow each woman to live this journey with confidence, vitality and well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions

Menopause

There are various approaches to relieving the symptoms of the menopause, including hormone therapy, non-hormonal medication, lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise, and complementary therapies.

Hormone therapy can be an effective option for relieving menopausal symptoms, but it should be carefully evaluated in terms of benefits and risks, taking into account the woman’s medical history, age and other health factors. It is important to note that this is hormone replacement therapy with hormone replacement in adequate concentrations and not increased concentrations compared to the pre-menopausal period, aiming for the minimum concentration necessary for symptom relief.

A balanced diet and regular exercise can play a crucial role in managing and controlling menopausal symptoms. These changes in a woman’s lifestyle can help control weight, improve cardiovascular health and reduce menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, regulate sleep and psychological symptoms of fatigue and demotivation.

The menopause can impact a woman’s sexual health in a number of ways, including vaginal dryness and decreased sexual desire. Questions about local hormone therapies, lubricants and sexual counseling are common to address these conditions.

Yes, menopausal hormonal changes can influence cardiovascular health. Questions about strategies to maintain a healthy heart, such as cardiovascular exercise and dietary changes, are common, especially for women with pre-existing risk factors.

The duration of menopause treatment can vary significantly from one woman to another. Treatment can consist of a short-term approach to relieve acute menopausal symptoms, such as hormone therapy, and/or a long-term strategy to manage persistent symptoms and prevent long-term complications, such as lifestyle changes – a balanced diet, regular exercise and stress management techniques. It is essential that decisions about the duration of treatment are made in consultation with a qualified health professional, taking into account the woman’s general health and her individual goals and expectations.
