Puppet lines
What are they?
Peri-oral lines, commonly known as marionette lines, are vertical expression wrinkles that extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin, in some cases becoming an extension of the nasolabial fold.
How do they come about?
Like other types of wrinkles, “Marionette Lines” are caused by the decrease in collagen production, loss of elasticity and sagging that occurs with advancing age. On the other hand, the skin around the lips is thinner than the rest of the face, so it is more prone to wrinkles. Excessive sun exposure, smoking, alcohol, poor diet, tiredness and a sedentary lifestyle can also contribute to the worsening appearance of these wrinkles.
